Job Description

Innovate Labs is seeking students interested in working with emerging technology in a professional experiential learning lab space. A Lab Assistant is assigned to our Learning, Outreach or Marketing teams. The Learn team is responsible for building out all technical related lab activities and maintaining/expanding all emerging tech resources. Outreach team is responsible for expanding the impact of the lab throughout campus through planning events, workshops, coffee chats and partnerships with UConn and external organizations. The marketing team creates and promotes content that highlights lab activities, resources and expand lab awareness. In general a lab assistant is required to: 

  • Give presentations and help at events with students, faculty, staff and general public regarding lab activities 

  • Assistants students with learning and projects regarding emerging technologies 

  • Plan events and collaborations with other UConn groups centered around emerging technologies 

  • Troubleshoot technical problems for advanced technologies 

  • Research and create thorough documentation/programs about innovative hardware and software 

  • Promote a friendly and inclusive learning environment to spark innovative ideas

  • Currently looking for 2 students focused on the learn or outreach team, and 1 student for the marketing team focused on web development

  • Possibility for start during the summer - hybrid work may be available

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have more than one year left at UConn

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfortable creating presentations, technical documentation and presenting content

  • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative within a professional environment 

  • Desire and passion for emerging technologies 

  • Experience with customer service and teaching experience

  • Desire to help students learn innovative hardware and software 

 

Preferred Qualifications for Lab Assistant (Learn, Outreach Teams)

  • Experience with 

    • 3D Tech (Modeling, printing, scanning)

    • X-Reality (VR, AR, 360 Video)

    • IoT (Smart systems, Digital Assistants, Voice Tech)

    • AI (Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Chatbots)

    • Data Visualization (Tableau, Power BI, Google Analytics)

    • Predictive Analytics (R, SAS JMP, Python)

    • Programming (Python, GIT, SQL, C/C++)

    • Blockchain (Ledgers, NFTS, Cryptocurrency)

    • Applied Tech (Drones, Robotics, Automated Logistics)

    • Circuitry (Microcontrollers, Sensors)

 

Preferred Qualifications for Marketing Assistant (Marketing Team)

  • Experience with

    • Graphic Design: Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, InDesign, or related program

    • Social media (Professionally): Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok

    • Website Design: WordPress, HTML, CSS
