Work-Study Research Assistant Program Faculty Name: Jason Hancock Faculty Department: Physics and Institute of Materials Science General Research Focus: Research in fundamental quantum materials physics, with some applied physics projects using photon-based spectroscopy. Brief Position Description: Student would join the research group, be available to assist. graduate students, may receive an independent project from the PI after initiation period. Experiments may use lasers and broadband sources, may include synchrotron-based experiments at national laboratories. Students will learn the following: hardware, software, lasers, cryogenic refrigeration, vacuum hardware, data analysis, scientific communication, optical properties of materials. A "Student Equipment Design & Testing Assistant - 201" assists faculty in research efforts related to technology/equipment design and function. A student in this position will help design, assemble, characterize, and use experimental apparatus to study matter using light. |
