Work-Study Research Assistant Program

General Research Focus: The posted position is a research assistantship working on a study that aims to examine behavioral and biological determinants of cardiometabolic health risk in young female adults. Identifying early/subclinical determinants of cardiovascular risk offers researchers valuable information that can be used to design preventive and/or interventions to mitigate risk before disease states are established. The study is comprised of interviews/survey administration, anthropometric measures, as well as biomarker analysis. 

Brief Position Description: The assistantship role focuses on study advertisement, participant screening, scheduling study visits as well as active data collection for the interview/surveys. Formally, this position assists faculty in research efforts utilizing survey research techniques.  Students in this position will have the opportunity to learn basic research techniques including IRB protocols, study design, participant screening, informed consent process, and survey interviews. If students are interested, they may assist with biological measurements with additional training.

A "Student Interview & Survey Research Assistant - 202" will assist faculty in research efforts using survey research techniques. A student in this position may:

• Design/posting/distributing study advertisements
   • Screening potential participants for inclusion
   • Schedule study visits
   • Conduct interviews visits
   • Administer questionnaires (by phone, in person, online)
   • Collect and record data
   • Code/plot and analyze data
   • Review forms and/or notes for completeness
   • Attend training sessions and staff meetings
   • Assist with project related literature searches and IRB documentation as needed
   • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed

 

Job Requirements

Job Requirements - A student must: 

  • Be an undergraduate student with a federal work-study award
  • Be able to operate computer, phone, and/or other research equipment
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Complete required research reflections and a professional development experience
  • Meet with an OUR staff member for one advising appointment each semester to discuss learning, goals, and next steps
  • Have completed and/or willingness to complete required research training request by the IRB (e.g., 
  • CITI research training, Environmental Health and Safety)
  • Ability to obtain a REDCap account through UCHC
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings, in-person data collection sessions, and misc. meetings as needed to discuss progress

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Interest in health/healthcare, background in STEM-related field preferred
