General Research Focus

Research in social and political psychology, often taking an international perspective. Research focuses on social power, relationships between groups, international humanitarian law, empathy, dominance, and emotions in intergroup relations.

Brief Position Description: 

Identifying relevant scientific and historical publications, reviewing research, developing experimental stimuli, analyzing experimental and survey data, content coding of participants' free responses, organizing information and tracking project progress. Students will be taught how to do most tasks. I was a work-study student in college. 

The student worker will learn how to design and organize research, how to consider what data means compared to theory, data analysis, presentation preparation, assist with writing papers (Especially for two ESL post-doctoral fellows), using software like R or SPSS, Qualtrics, or other programs.

Job Description:

A Student Research Review Assistant - 205 will assist faculty in research effort by conducting review of literature and subject material specific to research topics. A student in this position may:

  •    Identify new research publications pertinent to research papers being written.
  •    Prepare tables or graphs from data for publications.
  •    Write summaries of specific research literatures.
  •    Content-code written responses to questions.
  •    Elementary analyses of existing data (or more advanced if able).
  •    Check manuscripts.
  •    Develop or provide feedback on stimulus materials for experiments.
Job Requirements

Job Requirements: 

A student must: 

  • Be an undergraduate student with a federal work-study award
  • Be able to operate a computer and/or other research equipment
  • Have strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Complete required research reflections and a professional development experience
  • Meet with an OUR staff member for one advising appointment each semester to discuss learning, goals, and next steps
  • After you start, you may have to do CITI training (online ethics training).
  • Read additional materials about research ethics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in group discrimination, conflict, prejudice, stereotyping, and/or political processes.
  • Comfort or experience with statistical packages.
  • Good expository writing skills.
  • Responsible.
