Work-Study Research Assistant Program Faculty Name: Loneke Blackman Carr Faculty Department: Nutritional Sciences General Research Focus: My lab conducts research to address obesity among populations experiencing health disparities. This research is behavioral in nature, meaning, we focus on lifestyle change through dietary and physical activity improvement. Brief Position Description: In this position, the student will support a behavioral weight loss intervention specifically targeting postpartum Black women (N=15) with overweight or obesity. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of delivering a 12-week weight loss program through a digital medium. The student will learn: - About behavioral research to change lifestyles to include healthy eating and increase physical activity with adults
- How to treat obesity among postpartum women who are Black, addressing health disparities where Black women in this phase of life typically have a hard time losing weight and are not well-represented in research studies.
- How to interact with human participants and how a study is executed
Job Description: A Student Human Behavioral Research Assistant - 204 will assist faculty in human research efforts. A student in this position may: - Assist with various recruitment efforts targeting postpartum Black women (screen, select, and scheduled participants)
- Create recruitment and lesson materials for the study.
- Contact and follow up with participants via email and/or phone
- Learn and utilize REDCap, a platform for data management where students will learn how to input data. Students will also learn how to collect data and manage it.
