Work-Study Research Assistant Position

General Research Focus:  My current research is focused on Developing the animated series Quinn and the Quantum Team. It's aim is to teach children in middle school about STEM curriculum, teamwork and Quantum Mechanics through an action/adventure animated series. We are currently developing an animated pilot supported by a QuantumCT Educational Grant. Ongoing research in 24/25 will continue to develop the artistic world for use in the series.

Brief Position Description: The position will entail Artistic Design work in one or more of the following: Costume, Scenery, Props, Storyboards and/or Graphic Design. The specific duties of each Artist/Designer would align with the needs of the production and the skills of the student. Students would be expected to primarily work asynchronously to develop drawings, digital assets and technical designs.

A "Student Equipment Design & Testing Assistant - 201" assists faculty in research efforts related to technology/equipment design and function. A student in this position may:  

  • Design Costumes, Scenery, Props and/or Storyboards for an Animated Series
  • Draw technical figures and diagrams
  • Provide proportions of designs for 3D modeling
  • Transfer Digital Designs regularly to online file system
  • Collaborate with other artistic creatives
  • Collaborate asynchronously
  • Assist in designing digital and print materials supporting the Animated Series
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed
Job Requirements

Job requirements - A student must:  

  • Be an undergraduate student with a federal work-study award 
  • Be able to operate a computer and/or other research equipment 
  • Have strong communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality 
  • Complete required research reflections and a professional development experience 
  • Meet with an OUR staff member for one advising appointment each semester to discuss learning, goals, and next steps 
  • Demonstrated skill as an Artist and particularly in Areas of Design. Adjacent design experience welcome, including but not limited to Fashion, Art, Digital Media and Architecture.
  • Ability to work quickly to meet stringent deadlines
  • Ability to take notes effectively to meet production needs
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in Design, Modeling and/or Drafting Software
  • Experience in 3D modeling
  • A love of Animation and Learning
