Job Description

Work-Study Research Assistant Program

Faculty Name: Alyssa Dunn

Faculty Department:  Curriculum and Instruction/ Office of Teacher Education

General Research Focus: My research focuses on justice and equity in K-12 schools. In particular, I study how teachers and students experience "days after" tragedies and trauma and what teaching/learning looks like on these critical days. This research is done through qualitative methods of interviews, surveys, focus groups, and classroom observations.

Brief Position Description: Research assistants will help with (1) collecting and analyzing scholarly literature, (2) organizing participants' interviews and focus groups, (3) working collaboratively to collect data by interviewing teachers or K-12 students, and (4) having opportunities for co-writing manuscripts and giving presentations.

Students will have an opportunity to learn more about K-12 teaching and learning, interact with local educators and youth, and practice qualitative research methods under the supervision of an experienced researcher. I have extensive experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in writing, as well, so students may enhance their academic writing and presentation skills as they are comfortable.

A "Student Interview & Survey Research Assistant - 202" will assist faculty in research efforts utilizing survey research techniques. A student in this position will: schedule interviews and focus groups; distribute surveys virtually; collect and record interview data; assist with transcription; and have opportunities for co-writing manuscripts and presentations.
