                                               Between Women Co-Facilitator 

 

 

Summary of Position 

The goal of Between Women is to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for LGBTQIA+ women to find and gain community and be able to share experiences. The weekly meetings will focus on topics related to gender and sexuality socialization, healthy relationships, and resources available for the LGBTQIA+ community.   

 

The facilitators will work to recruit group participants; plan conversation topics and/or other activities for weekly meetings; create and prepare content materials as needed; facilitate conversation on specific content areas; and encourage problem-solving and support among members. This position works closely with a full-time staff person and a co-facilitator in the creation of all the materials related to the development and continuation of the group.  

 

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, addressing issues of gender equity through coursework and/or co-curricular activities. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, group facilitation. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, working with diverse populations. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, working specifically with the LGBTQIA+ community. 

  • Demonstrated adaptability, particularly the ability to perform job responsibilities across a range of platforms and environments (for example virtual or in-person). 

  • Commitment to the responsibilities described below, as well as a commitment of time to attend all sessions you have agreed to participate in.

Past participation in Between Women is preferred.   

Job Requirements

Responsibilities 

  1. Provide leadership to the group: facilitate meetings and conversation amongst members, create a safe atmosphere by setting and upholding community agreements, modeling open-mindedness and a community of practice, moderate sharing and remind members of confidentiality at each meeting. 

  1. Note:  Between Women will meet between 1-2 hours, once a week (dates TBD) for 13 weeks. The facilitators must attend all scheduled meetings and communicate with the group and supervisors when there is a change in schedule.  

  1. Define expectations and purpose of the group to prospective and new members.  

  1. With the assistance of the staff, provide information, support, and guidance to participants. 

  1. Develop promotional strategies and materials, as required. 

  1. Keep supervisor informed about the happenings within the group. 

  1. Represent the Center on designated committees, as appropriate, and provide the administrative support needed. 

  1. Make arrangements for a meeting room and advertise the group to the community.  

  1. Record keeping (i.e., general attendance, confidentiality signatures, and agenda). 

  1. Serve as a liaison between the Women’s Center staff and the group. 

  1. This position will be required to attend: 

  1. Attendance at ALL staff meetings and complete professional development assignments, such as required readings and programs. These meetings will be as follows: 

  1. Bi-weekly student staff meetings on Fridays from 3 – 5pm 

  1. Training August 18th- August 22nd 

  1. Spring Training date TBD 

  1. Additional Staff related meetings (Women's Herstory, etc). 

  1. Mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention training (this requirement may be waived with documentation of attendance from a previous UConn employer) 

  1.  

  1. Facilitators will be expected to work an average of 8 - 10 hours per week(8 hours for facilitator duties and supervision meetings, additional two hours for bi-weekly staff meetings.)   

 

All students are responsible for: 

  • Serving as Women’s Center receptionist, answering phones, directing calls, taking messages and welcoming visitors. 
  • Answering constituent’s requests for information about the Women’s Center and our services. 
  • Assisting in development and distribution of program publicity, materials, programs for events and posting flyers on campus. 
  • Assisting visitors in Women’s Center library. 
  • Running business errands around campus. 
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times. 
  • Assisting in keeping the Women's Center in an orderly fashion. 
  • Attending ALL staff meetings and completing professional development assignments, such as required readings and programs.  
  • Other tasks as assigned.
