Programming Specialist 

Summary of Position 

The Programming Specialist is responsible for program/event planning and workshop development/facilitation relevant to gender equity, and building a committee of volunteers to implement programs and initiatives that are developed throughout the academic year.

Job Description 

This position works closely with a full time staff person and will be responsible for designing programming initiatives and events, engaging volunteers at meetings; planning discussion topics and/or other activities; and facilitating discussion on specific content areas. 

Additionally, the staff will be expected to participate in weekly supervision/debrief meetings, work cooperatively and collaboratively with their co-workers, deliver and receive constructive feedback, and routinely evaluate the status of their own professional development.

  • This position will be required to attend ALL staff meetings and complete professional development assignments, such as required readings and programs. These meetings will be on Fridays from 3pm-5pm.

  • All staff must complete mandatory training during the week before classes begin August 18-August 22nd, as a way to enhance content proficiency, develop effective facilitation techniques, and foster open communication and trust with co-workers within the Center.

Job Requirements

Detailed Commitment and Responsibilities

  • Work an average of 8 - 10 hours per week. (8 hours for design duties and supervision meetings, additional two hours for bi-weekly staff meetings.)

  • Plan and implement programs and events. 

  • Propose new activities and projects that will further the mission and goals of the Women’s Center. 

  • Lead weekly volunteer meetings 

  • Serve as a liaison between guest speakers/presenters/committees and the Women's Center; make initial contact with potential presenters to obtain program information and program cost. 

  • Coordinate and monitor event timelines 

  • Facilitate weekly meetings. (The meeting dates will be determined each semester and based on the Programming Specialist's and group members’ availability.) 

  • Provide leadership to volunteers: facilitate discussions, create a safe atmosphere by establishing expectations, and modeling open-mindedness.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, addressing issues of gender equity through coursework and/or co-curricular activities. 

  • Demonstrated experience in promoting and implementing events and programs; 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, group facilitation. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, working with diverse populations. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to actively creating a welcoming environment for all students, including, but not limited to, students who face additional challenges due to their race, nationality, class, gender identity, sexuality, religion, age and ability;  

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;  

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to accomplish goals; and 

  • Commitment to the responsibilities described below, as well as a commitment of time to attend all meetings you have agreed to participate in.  

  • Demonstrated adaptability, particularly the ability to perform job responsibilities across a range of platforms and environments (for example virtual or in-person) 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Past participation on the Women’s Center staff and/or participation in Women’s Center programs and activities 

All students are responsible for: 

  • Serving as Women’s Center receptionist, answering phones, directing calls, taking messages and welcoming visitors. 

  • Answering constituent’s requests for information about the Women’s Center and our services. 

  • Assisting in development and distribution of program publicity, materials, programs for events and posting flyers on campus. 

  • Running business errands around campus. 

  • Maintaining privacy at all times. 

  • Assisting in keeping the Women's Center in an orderly fashion. 

  • Other tasks as assigned.
